My
name is Robert H. Pedroli, Jr. and I was born in St. Louis in 1957. I have always lived in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. I graduated
from St. Louis University High School in 1976. I attended the University
of Missouri-St. Louis and obtained a B. A. in Political Science in
1981, and also received a certificate in Asian Studies. I was on
the Deans List for academic excellence for each of my final six semesters,
and I completed courses in the Chinese Language at Washington University.
I attended St. Louis University School of Law and was conferred
a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1984. I graduated with honors, cum laude. I worked my way through college and law school. I worked at the family business, a neighborhood gas/service station in mid-St. Louis through high school and college.
I passed the Missouri and Illinois State Bar Examinations without failure.
Initially, I became an associate attorney for a large civil
(insurance) defense law firm which defended corporations, insurance companies and their individual insureds. I learned insurance defense litigation, attended a defense trial academy and acted
as lead and associate counsel in lawsuits on behalf of many national and international insurance companies and their insureds. I also represented various local doctors and hospitals sued by patients in medical malpractice suits.
I learned how insurance companies operate,
and this has given me insight in representing people
against insurance companies and their insureds, including
cases involving automobile accidents, product
liability, malpractice, premise liability, property
damage cases and various other claims.
In 1988, I went into private practice. I continued to represent several insurance companies that decided to place litigation defense business with me. The purpose in starting my own practice was to go in the direction that led me to the law profession in the first place. I wanted to represent consumers, ordinary people who, through no fault of their own were injured and thereby economically damaged. These people were up against powerful interests that understood the system and influenced the process and the law with their power and money. I started to represent plaintiffs against the companies that I did not represent. Over the next few years, our firm progressed to become a law firm that
almost exclusively represents people against insurance interests, hospitals, doctors, corporations and individuals that have insurance
coverage for their wrongful conduct. We no longer represent any
insurance companies and have not done so for about seventeen years.
I am licensed
to practice before the Missouri Bar, the Illinois Bar, the Federal
District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the Federal
Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United
States of America. I am also a member of the Missouri Association
of Trial Attorneys and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, now the American Association for Justice.
I
am proud of my reputation as an aggressive and hard working attorney.
I have handled thousands of injury civil suits and workers
compensation claims. I have handled many high profile cases and
cases covered by the local and national media, including civil rights cases, assault cases, wrongful death cases, medical malpractice cases, dangerous intersection cases and premise liability
cases. Many of my cases and verdicts have been covered in the
newspaper and in newscasts and I have appeared in the media on numerous
occasions. I have been involved in claims that have changed the
law in the State of Missouri and Illinois. We have made new law regarding the travel
industrys duties and the class of persons who may recover
under a liability homeowners policy of insurance. I have represented many clients against physicians and hospitals for bariatric (weight loss) surgery, birthing injuries, geriatric injuries, nursing home claims and various other types of medical negligence cases.
My three largest
jury verdicts average over $1,000,000. I have settled multiple claims
with present values in excess of $1,000,000. I have settled several
claims with expected payout's of over $5,000,000.00 and one with an
expected payout of over $12,000,000. I had the largest recorded verdict in a wrongful death case in the St. Louis metropolitan area for the death of a retired person over the age of 70. I have the largest reported medical malpractice settlement for 2007, and this case was well over two times larger than the next highest reported settlement. No case is too big or small
and I still handle and try all classes of cases. I have also tried many worker's compensation cases. See the cases contained in the prior experiences section of this site.
I
have always embraced my roots and I am glad to represent
all people against the insurance, business, and government
interests and institutions of our society. I stand for what helps
consumers and patients, and stand against what hurts us. Trial lawyers are the advocates
for the people who are the victims of insurance companies
and large corporations.
My wife and
I have three children. I am interested in our community and our
future. Win, lose or draw, my clients are satisfied that their interests
were competently and aggressively represented. Most of our client base has been referred to me by prior clients. We do not advertise on television, radio, or billboards. We do not pay to have our web site optimized to obtain internet hits.
